Coach from opposing team applauds Tri Pen Ice

The Compass - - OPINION -

On behalf of the Tri-Com Thunder bantam AAA hockey team that competed in the East Coast Ice Jam Tournament in Halifax recently, I would like notify your readers about a true act of sportsmanship that occurred.

After our team won the championship game on Sunday, Jan. 11, versus the Fredericton AAA Canadiens, the entire Tri Pen Ice bantam AAA team came onto the ice to congratulate our team. After suffering a tough overtime loss to the same Fredericton team in the semi-finals, the team returned to the rink and watched the finals.

Captain Zachary Bennett came down to our dressing room before the game and wished the players and myself good luck in the finals. This was very much appreciated coming from a player I coached as part of the High Performance Program Under-15 team.

I would like to commend coach Nelson Bennett and his team for what can only be described as the true meaning of sportsmanship in our game.

son Bennett and his team for what can only be described as the true meaning of sportsmanship in our game. Our teams battle hard in the bantam AAA league here at home along with the other three teams and will continue to do so for the rest of the season. However, as a fellow coach I have the upmost respect for coach Bennett for his team’s actions.

I congratulate them on having a fine tournament. Their talent turned a lot of heads in Halifax, and they had several players named to all-star teams.
