BUR­DEN, George Gil­bert — Passed peace­fully away after a brief bat­tle with can­cer in Red Deer, AB, on Dec. 31, 2014, George Gil­bert Bur­den, for­merly of Car­bon­ear, in his 81st year. Pre­de­ceased by his first wife Betty (Sains­bury) and sec­ond wife Car­rie (Ban­field), his par­ents James and El­iz­a­beth Bur­den, his mother Doris Bur­den King, sis­ter El­iz­a­beth Kelsey, and brother Calvin Pow­ell. Leav­ing to mourn: de­voted part­ner Bar­bara Hawthorne and her three adult chil­dren. Chil­dren Donna (Pa­trick) Sch­lachter, Den­ver, CO; Karen ( John) Comer­ford, Car­bon­ear, NL; Linda ( John) Boland, Cam­bridge, ON; Paul (Tina) Mis­sis­sauga, ON; and David (Margie) Red Deer, AB; grand­chil­dren, Adam (Holly), An­drew (Cayla), Makayla, Alex, Mathew, Danielle, El­iz­a­beth, and James: 2 Grand­daugh­ters and 9 Great grand­chil­dren in the US. Brother Bert (Paula) Pow­ell, Cam­bo­dia; sis­ters Sheila (Gor­don) An­der­son, Hantsport, NS; and Mar­i­lyn (Ralph) Mont­gomery, Hal­i­fax, NS. Also a large cir­cle of other fam­ily and friends. George was a long-time mem­ber of the As­so­ci­a­tion of En­gi­neer­ing Tech­ni­cians and Tech­nol­o­gists of New­found­land and Labrador (AETTNL), the Cana­dian Snowbird As­so­ci­a­tion (CSA), and the Ma­sonic Lodge. He made a huge im­pact on his fam­ily and his com­mu­nity through his var­i­ous af­fil­i­a­tions in­clud­ing as a Master Lock­smith, a Pinker­ton Agent, and a lo­cal busi­ness­man. Cre­ma­tion has taken place and pri­vate fam­ily in­ter­ment will take place at a later date.
