Minor hockey associations gear up for provincials
Minor hockey teams from the Trinity-Conception-Placentia region now know where they’re going for provincial tournaments in March and April.
Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador recently released its final grading reports for male and female minor hockey. These reports list host teams for the 41 tournaments happening over a relatively short four-week period.
These reports rank every minor hockey travel team in the province and places them in what HNL feels is a suitable division.
Of those 41, five will be contested at rinks in this region.
Starting with the earliest tournament, the Trinity-Placentia and CeeBees minor hockey associations will cohost the provincial female under-12 mega tournament March 20-22.
The games will be held at the Trinity-Placentia Stadium in Whitbourne and the S.W. Moores Memorial Stadium in Harbour Grace.
The Bay Arena under-12 Roverines are set to compete in the tournament in addition to teams from Whitbourne and Harbour Grace.
After a short two-week break, Placentia Intertown will welcome five teams to the Unity Parc Arena for the peewee E division tournament. Teams from Bay D’Espoir, Clarenville, CBR, Springdale and Twillingate are competing from April 6-8.
At the same time, Trinity-Placentia will host teams from the Bay Arena minor, Bonavista, Clarenville, Port aux Basques and Northeast in Torbay to Whitbourne for the midget B tournament.
Meanwhile in Harbour Grace, the Cee Bees rep 1 midget squad will host the midget D division tournament. Participating teams will travel from Bishop’s Falls, Fogo-Change Islands, Lewisporte, Placentia Intertown and St. Pierre et Miquelon.
Once those tournaments end, attention shifts to the atom B tournament being held at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts.
The Rovers atom A team will be in tough against opponents from CBR, Corner Brook, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor and St. John’s.
