A new snowflake queen
On Friday, Feb. 20, 14 girls from age eight to 12 dressed in their best formal attire, strapped on some fancy shoes and did their hair in their attempt to become the next Miss Snowflake at Victoria’s Snowflake Pageant. The room at the Victoria Community Centre was filled with proud parents and friends, and the girls blew kisses to their loved ones from the catwalk. After an interview and strutting their stuff on the runway, a new queen was crowned. The warm and friendly nine-year-old Olivia Flynn (back left) is the daughter of Heather and Anthony Sutton of Victoria, and will attend events throughout the next year as Miss Snowflake. First runner-up was Leah Mercer, 10, and second runner-up was Summer Parsons, also 10. Outgoing queen was Katie Burke. Other contestants in this year’s pageant included, in no particular order, Mackenzie Sutton, Macie Mercer, Amber Chislett, Franky Evely, Dakota Parsons, Fayth Reynolds, Kendall Clarke, Ruby Lynn Burke, Hannah King, Shayna Priddle and Hailey King. The pageant was organized by the Victoria Recreation Commission as part of the community’s Winter Carnival.
