The Health Sciences Cen­tre and St. Clare’s Mercy Hos­pi­tal treat those who have ex­pe­ri­enced de­pres­sion, self-harmed or at­tempted sui­cide in the greater St. John’s area. Be­tween the two fa­cil­i­ties, 326 pa­tients were seen be­tween Feb. 1, 2014 and Jan. 31, 2015. Car­bon­ear Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal had 64 cases dur­ing the same time pe­riod. The Janeway Chil­drens Hos­pi­tal and Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­tre saw over 500 pa­tients for sim­i­lar rea­sons dur­ing that year. Adults that seek help for self-harm at a health fa­cil­ity may get ad­mit­ted. Oth­ers can go through a re­fer­ral process to the Adult Cen­tral In­take ser­vice by call­ing 709-752-8888 Mon­day to Fri­day, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A mo­bile cri­sis team is avail­able seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the St. John’s re­gion and an emer­gency men­tal health cri­sis line is avail­able 24 hours a day by call­ing ei­ther 1-888-737-4668 or 709-737-4668.
