Help for adults
The Health Sciences Centre and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital treat those who have experienced depression, self-harmed or attempted suicide in the greater St. John’s area. Between the two facilities, 326 patients were seen between Feb. 1, 2014 and Jan. 31, 2015. Carbonear General Hospital had 64 cases during the same time period. The Janeway Childrens Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre saw over 500 patients for similar reasons during that year. Adults that seek help for self-harm at a health facility may get admitted. Others can go through a referral process to the Adult Central Intake service by calling 709-752-8888 Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A mobile crisis team is available seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the St. John’s region and an emergency mental health crisis line is available 24 hours a day by calling either 1-888-737-4668 or 709-737-4668.
