Lab results match evidence in North River murder case
Police say they're ready to act on DNA evidence linked to a murder investigation in North River.
In a news release issued last Friday, RCMP Staff Sgt. Boyd Merrill confirmed laboratory results recently processed match evidence gathered previously concerning the murder last June of Dale Porter.
“Police are now in a position to act on these results,” he said in the release.
Porter was found critically injured in front of his North River home on June 29, 2014, and died there a short while later. He had been out that night at drinking establishments in the Conception Bay North area.
Police announced last December it was in the process of reviewing DNA test results.
“Science plays a major role in 21st century homicide investigations,” said Merrill. “Science is sometimes slow but extremely exact and reliable.”
Police will not be releasing further information at this time, citing confidentiality and the investigation's integrity.
