New season for Butlerville youth softball
The Butlerville Youth Recreational Softball group is gearing up for its sixth season of competitive action.
Interest in the program has increased considerably over the years. A mere 24 youth were involved in its inaugural season in 2010. Last year, more than 70 young players were swinging bats and throwing balls on the local field in Butlerville.
“We’re very competitive,” Parsons told The Compass, noting teams representing the Butlerville group have won provincial tournaments, including the 2012 Constable William Moss Memorial Fastpitch Tournament. Butlerville won in division II of bantam boys action that year. Parsons expects the group will continue to grow with the new season, which starts after the Victoria Day weekend in May and ends the week before school begins in the fall. There will be a family fun day and an end-ofyear banquet this season.
“We have a pretty good thing going there, and of course, the bigger the numbers the better it’s going to be,” said Parsons.
Butlerville Youth Recreational Softball is for youth ages five to 16 years. For more information on registration, interested parties can contact Parsons at 6835793 or Darrell Mercer at 683-5441.
