Get a grip
Students at Perlwin Elementary in Winterton celebrated the conclusion of their Little Green Thumbs project with a host of activities, including pizza making, painting a pet rock and gymnasium activities. It is a project designed to “help young people value the health of themselves, the environment and their community through active participation in a classroom garden.” The students spent the year perfecting their gardening skills as they grew their own tomatoes, green peas and squash in tiny classroom gardens. The grand finale came when the children learned about milking a cow with a life-sized livestock replica, Mootica. Here, Sarah Pitchers gets firm grip on the replica’s udders while Matthew Coombs looks on.
