Every team wants to make sure it performs well at its home tournament.

Players want to make sure the hometown fans get a good show and hopefully a winning result. For the North Shore Wreckers, they produced plenty of positive vibes for their fans after squeaking by the Butlerville Bombers 76 in the final of its under-16 tournament held at the Albert E. Walsh Memorial Softball Field in Western Bay on Aug. 8.

Besides the Wreckers and the Bombers, there were two other squads vying for the coveted tournament title. The Brook Cove Bobcats from Heart’s Delight-Islington and the Trinity Bay Eagles from Winterton made the trip with eyes on the championship.

The tournament was played on one day, which meant officials and teams alike were tasked with keeping a tight schedule to ensure all of the games went ahead.

In the first game of the day, the Bombers soundly defeated the Eagles 18-5. In the second game, the Bombers blanked the Bobcats 19-0 in a shortened five-inning affair.

The hometown Wreckers got their first taste of action as they clipped the Eagles 24-5 in another five-inning game. In a precursor to the final, the Wreckers and the Bombers met in a tight matchup. The Bombers bested the hometown team 8-7.

In another close game, the Bobcats defeated the Eagles 129. The conclusion of the round robin saw the Wreckers defeat the Bobcats 15-2 in five innings.

Plenty of fans witnessed some great softball being played by all four teams. The success of the tournament can be viewed as proof that the game of softball in the Trinity-Conception area is rapidly growing and should only get stronger as time goes on.
