Work should start next month to fix up roads leading to Argentia, Fox Harbour and Ship Harbour, according to the provincial government.

A $1.6 million tender has been awarded to repave 2.8 kilometres of Route 102, which leads to Fox Harbour and Ship Harbour, and to look after asphalt leveling for two kilometres of the Argentia Access Road — also known as Route 100.

In a news release last week, the Department of Transportation and Works said Farrell’s Excavating will start that work in September.

“The upgrades to Ship Harbour Road and the Argentia Access Road are welcome investments for the residents of Placentia-St. Mary’s,” local MHA Felix Collins said in the release. “These routes are important to our road infrastructure and will improve driving conditions for residents, as well as tourists to the region.”

This year, the province allocated $90 million to improve and maintain provincial roads.
