Butt’s Esso claims 2015 Carbonear softball crown
It was a clean sweep for Butt’s Esso in the championship series of the Carbonear Slow Pitch Softball League.
Butt’s downed Western Petroleum in four straight games to capture the title. Heading in to game 3 on Sept. 21, Western were trailing 2-0 in the series when they were defeated 11-6 at the Carbonear Recreation Complex.
Top hit man for the winners was Jim King with three hits. He was helped by Steven King, Gord King and Marty Tiley with two hits apiece.
For Western, Mat Davis had three hits while Roy Flight, Jeff King and Sam White had two hits each.
Steven King tossed the win while Sam White was saddled with the loss.
In game four, Butt’s doubled Western 18-9 to take the 2015 title.
Paul O’Leary and Jason Power led the way for Butt’s with three hits each. Jim King, Stacey Moriarty, Paul Sullivan, Jody Doyle, Mat Hiscock and Cecil Taylor had two hits apiece in victory.
Pacing the Western attack was Mat Davis and Nick Rossiter who had three hits each.
Chipping in were Scot Cleary and Jeff King with a pair of hits apiece.
Steven King toed the rubber in victory while Sam White took the loss.
