Trinity-Conception-Placentia minor hockey teams receive first grading report
Hockey NL has released its first round of grading reports for the 2015-2016 minor hockey league season.
While it still very early in the year, these reports carry with them a little more weight this time around, especially in the bantam and midget divisions.
That is because heading into this year, HNL removed body checking from those divisions for any teams not slotted in the A division. Body checking remains a part of the game in high school hockey, AA and AAA hockey.
So far, just a single team — the Bay Arena bantam A — is the only team to find its name in any A division in bantam and midget.
The closest other teams get are the B divisions in bantam and midget. The CeeBees bantam A team will compete in the B division, while both the Bay Arena and Trinity Placentia midget A teams are headed to the B division tournament.
These teams will be required to play the game with hitting for the remainder of the season or until a new grading report comes out that could have them placed in the top division.
For the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts, they are scheduled to send atom teams to the A division tournament, the mega tournament and the E division tournament. In the peewee division, they’ll be heading to Kelligrews for the peewee A division tournament, while other divisional teams are travelling to the St. John’s mega tournament.
Aside from the bantam A team, the Bay Arena’s bantam B team is slotted for the E division tourney. In midget, the Bay Arena B team is slotted for the H tournament.
For CeeBees minor hockey in Harbour Grace, they’ll send atom teams to the mega tournament and the G division. In peewee, they’re teams are headed to the mega, as well as the C and D divisions.
For their bantam teams, the B and E divisions are their destinations. The CeeBees midget B team is slotted for the I division.
The Whitbourne-based Trinity-Placentia minor association will send their atom team to the mega tournament according to the first grading report. It’s peewee team is slotted for the C division, while the TeePees’ bantam squad is scheduled for the bantam mega tournament.
For Placentia Intertown, their atom team finds itself in the E division to start the season. They’re peewee team is in the G division, while the bantam Lions are headed for the mega tourney.
Placentia’s midget squad is slotted for the D division.
It should be pointed out that there will be other grading reports produced as teams start playing games and their results can be given consideration in the rankings.
The peewee and midget tournaments are set for March 28-30, while the atom and bantam tourneys are scheduled for Mar. 31April 2.
