Bay Roberts swimmer picks up medal in Quebec
Young swimmer Alex Neil had a thrilling experience she won’t soon forget.
Competing with her Poseidon Swim Club teammates at a recent meet in Pointe-Claire, Quebec (Invitation Provinciale AA Pointe-Claire 2015), the 13-yearold captured a bronze medal. Neil did that in the 50-metre butterfly event.
The swimmer form Bay Roberts posted a personal-best time in the preliminary round (32.29 seconds) that left her in second place heading into the final. She took further time off in the final with a time of 31.96, leaving her only three-hundredths of a second behind the silver medalist.
Neil was the lone Poseidon swimmer to qualify for finals. In addition to the 50-m butterfly, she qualified for the 50-m freestyle B-final in the 13-14 age group, finishing 13th with a new personal-best time of 30.31.
Poseidon sent five swimmers to the meet in Quebec — Courtney Budden, Drew Forward, Sarah Forward, Rylee Moores and Neil. All five managed to earn at least one personal-best time.
Twenty-one clubs were represented at the four-day event, held Dec. 10-13, including several from Ontario, Quebec and others from Atlantic Canada.
