Bay Roberts swim­mer picks up medal in Que­bec

Young swim­mer Alex Neil had a thrilling ex­pe­ri­ence she won’t soon forget.

Com­pet­ing with her Po­sei­don Swim Club team­mates at a re­cent meet in Pointe-Claire, Que­bec (In­vi­ta­tion Provin­ciale AA Pointe-Claire 2015), the 13-yearold cap­tured a bronze medal. Neil did that in the 50-me­tre but­ter­fly event.

The swim­mer form Bay Roberts posted a per­sonal-best time in the pre­lim­i­nary round (32.29 sec­onds) that left her in sec­ond place head­ing into the fi­nal. She took fur­ther time off in the fi­nal with a time of 31.96, leav­ing her only three-hun­dredths of a sec­ond be­hind the sil­ver medal­ist.

Neil was the lone Po­sei­don swim­mer to qual­ify for fi­nals. In ad­di­tion to the 50-m but­ter­fly, she qual­i­fied for the 50-m freestyle B-fi­nal in the 13-14 age group, fin­ish­ing 13th with a new per­sonal-best time of 30.31.

Po­sei­don sent five swim­mers to the meet in Que­bec — Court­ney Bud­den, Drew For­ward, Sarah For­ward, Rylee Moores and Neil. All five man­aged to earn at least one per­sonal-best time.

Twenty-one clubs were rep­re­sented at the four-day event, held Dec. 10-13, in­clud­ing sev­eral from On­tario, Que­bec and oth­ers from At­lantic Canada.
