2015’s top-5 sports stories
The past year was another standout one for the athletes of the Trinity-Conception-Placentia region. Over the last 12 months, we’ve seen countless championships, personal bests and incredible individual per- formances. There were global titles, provincial banners and some moments that made you stop and think about the power of sport.
However, sports stories are not just about winning and losing. A great sports story can make you look at the world around you differently. They can force you out of your comfort zone and into a place where you learn something about yourself.
This year we saw a group of high school aged athletes honour a teammate in a story that touched the province and a ball player from this province climb to the top of the mountain. There were so many great stories, it can be hard to narrow down the list to just a top-five performances but we’re going to try and do just that. Using a vicious rubric that would put the one used for Time Magazine’s Person Of The Year to shame, we’ve arrived the end. So without further delay here are The Compass’ picks for the topfive sports stories of 2015.
