Lift station upgrades almost finished in Carbonear
The Town of Carbonear hopes that work on the upgraded lift station on Pike’s Lane will soon be completed.
Carbonear’s public works director expects work to upgrade the town’s lift station on Pike’s Lane will clue up in the near future.
At last Monday’s council meeting, Brian O’Grady said the town was waiting on a component for the project.
He anticipated the supplier in St. John’s would have it by Friday.
“If all that happens, next week they should be back at finishing the pump station,” O’Grady told councillors last Monday.
The lift station on Pike’s Lane was originally installed in 1989 and handles over half of the town’s effluent.
In recent years there have been capacity issues and maintenance challenges with the station.
In January 2015, the town accepted a bid of $574,000 for the necessary upgrades, which include a new pumping system, backup generator and electrical system.
The municipality will cover 20 per cent of that cost.
