No medals for Poseidon at Short Course Championships
While there were no medals to take home from the provincial Short Course Championships in Mount Pearl, Poseidon Swim Club came close in a few cases.
Bay Roberts swimmer Alex Neil came fourth in the 50-metre butterfly race for the 13-14 age group with a time of 32.91 seconds, missing out on the bronze by less than a second. Neil was also fourth going into the final of the 100-m butterfly following her swim in the preliminary round, but she was disqualified in the final.
Elsewhere, Neil took more than two seconds off her previous personal best of 1:08.73 in the 100-m freestyle preliminary round and finished fifth in the final with a time of 1:06.73. She was also seventh in the 50-m freestyle and 10th in 200-m individual medley.
Sarah Forward of Salmon Cove finished sixth in the final of the 400-m freestyle event for 13-14 girls and eighth in both the 100m and 400-m individual medley finals, taking more than eight seconds off her previous personal best in the former race with a time of 1:20.51.
Sarah’s sister Drew made two A-finals in the 15-and-over age group, finishing seventh in 400m freestyle and eighth in 200-m backstroke. She also qualified for B-finals in the 200-m freestyle and 50-m backstroke events, finishing 11th and 16th respectively.
All three girls were joined by Poseidon teammate Courtney Budden in three 15-and-over relay events. The team finished fourth in the 4x100-m freestyle relay and fifth in both the 4x50m medley and 4x100-m medley relay events.
