Man ac­cused of at­tempted mur­der fit to stand trial

Ja­son Alexan­der King of Spa­niard’s Bay has been deemed fit to stand trial on a charge of at­tempted mur­der.

This de­ci­sion came last Wed­nes­day fol­low­ing a sev­en­day psy­chi­atric as­sess­ment or­dered at Har­bour Grace Pro­vin­cial Court. The 45-yearold King was ar­rested at the Bay Roberts Mall Tues­day, March 29. Po­lice were called to re­spond to a stab­bing in­ci­dent at the Dol­larama store where King re­port­edly worked.

A fe­male vic­tim was taken to hos­pi­tal with se­ri­ous but non-life threat­en­ing in­juries.

King is charged with at­tempted mur­der, two counts of as­sault, mis­chief for dam­ag­ing a cell phone, ut­ter­ing threats and breach of pro­ba­tion. An ear­lier court or­der pro­hib­ited King from hav­ing con­tact with the vic­tim.

The ac­cused’s case will re­turned to court May 18.
