Big medal count for Poseidon at Gander meet
Poseidon swimmers performed well at the Gander Lakers Spring Meet earlier this month, bringing home 29 medals.
Sarah Burt had a big meet for the Carbonear-based club, earning three gold medals in breaststroke events (50, 100 and 200 metres) in the 10-and-under female category.
In the 11-year-old girls category, Rylee Moores claimed five medals — two gold in 100-m freestyle and 200-m individual medley, a pair of silvers in 200-m freestyle and 100-m individual medley, plus a bronze in 50-m butterfly.
She barely missed out on a sixth medal, claiming fourth in the 50-m freestyle final.
Sarah Forward won four medals competing in the 13-year-old female category, earning a trio of silvers (200-m breaststroke and 200 and 400-m individual medley) and a bronze (400-m freestyle).
She was also fifth in 100-m breaststroke.
Fourteen-year-old female swimmer Alex Neil won two golds in 50-m freestyle and 200-m butterfly and a bronze in 50-m backstroke.
Neil came fourth in three other events — 50-m freestyle, 100-m butterfly and 200-m individual medley.
Mackenzie Sutton claimed three medals in 11-year-old girls with a pair of silvers (100-m freestyle and 200-m individual medley) and a bronze (100-m backstroke).
Sutton was also fourth in 200-m freestyle and fifth in 50-m butterfly.
Courtney Budden, competing in the 14-year-old girls category, won two bronze medals in 100 and 200-m freestyle.
She was also fourth in both 50 and 100-m backstroke and fifth in 100-m individual medley.
Jorja Bennett brought home a silver medal in 100-m butterfly for the 12-year-old girls category and just missed out on a bronze medal in 50-m butterfly, placing fourth. Noah Coombs earned a silver medal in 100-m backstroke, competing in the 13-year-old male age category.
Three other swimmers earned bronze medals — Broc Penney (12-year-old male 50-m breaststroke), Drew Forward (15-and-over female 400-m freestyle) and Arianna Taylor (14-year-old female 50-m breaststroke).
Abby Trask, 13, finished with personal best times in four events and was also a member of the 11-12 girls 4 x 50-m medley relay team that claimed a bronze medal. Poseidon relay teams also won a silver (4 x 50-m freestyle 13-14 girls) and two bronze (4 x 50-m freestyle 11-12 girls and 4 x 50-m medley 13-14 girls).
Poseidon Swim Club of Carbonear sent a dozen swimmers to the Gander Lakers Spring Meet earlier this month.
