CBN Skating Club celebrates another successful year
In front of hundreds of supporters at the S.W. Moores Memorial Stadium in Harbour Grace on April 17, members of the Conception Bay North Skating Club celebrated.
It was the club’s annual ice show. Entitled “Ice Tunes,” the show served as both a thankyou and a pat on the back for the work the skaters had done over the last number of months.
Over 150 skaters, three synchronized skating teams and eight soloists put their best foot forward in front of family and friends. They donned colourful costumes, decorated their helmets and made sure everything was in place as they cut their way through routines that had the audience members enthusiastically clapping in applause.
The ice show is also a time when the CBNSC hands out its year-end awards. First they recognized the group’s only graduating skater — Bailey Fowler.
Since the age of four, Fowler has been a member of the club. Billed as an enthusiastic skater, she’s helped out the club as a program assistant since Fowler was young.
Next up were the Can-Skate champions. They’re young skaters who demonstrate the qualities to be champions. From the Bay Arena, Madison Menchions was selected, while Sophie For- tune was picked from the S.W. Moores Memorial Stadium group.
Keira Dowden was named the Can-Skater of the Year as the athlete who demonstrates commitment, perseverance and dedication to the sport of figure skating.
Hannah Doyle was named the program assistant of the year, while Chloe Keefe received the Rebecca’s Passion for Skating Award.
Offered in memory of Rebecca Pack, it serves as reminder of Rebecca’s passion and spirit for skating.
Finally, Brianna Russell was the recipient of the Gina Blundon Award. Named in honour and remembrance of a dedicated volunteer to the CBNSC. The award is annually given to a senior skater who displays passion, spirit and triumph.
Star skaters with their guests put together a number entitled “Dear Future Husbands.” They are: front (l-r) — Julia Keefe, Danielle Mercer, Sarah Dawson, ToniLynn Parsons, Chloe Harris, Katie Dawson, Bailey Fowler, Chelsey Crane, Kathryn Petten, Brianna Russell and Lindsey Porter; back — Ethan Russell, Isaac Crane, Riley Mercer, Ethan Parsons, Adam Pike, Colin Parsons, Jacob Linthorne, Dawson Laundry, Riley Petten, Taylor Andrews and Billy Porter.
The Bay Arena CanSkaters from stages three to five get ready for their “Better When I’m Dancing” routine during the ice show.
