The recent theft of a tailgate from a pickup truck parked near the Trans Canada Highway is one of many similar crimes reported over the last few months, according to police.

The latest incident happened overnight last Tuesday at a commuter parking lot near the Trans Canada Highway and Salmonier Line. A Holyrood RCMP news release said thefts and vehicle damage cases like this have popped up at parking lots from Witless Bay Line to the Veteran’s Memorial Highway.

Items reported stolen include tires, rims, tailgates and light bars. Some items were also taken from inside vehicles. Police are reminding vehicle owners to make sure they secure their property and avoid leaving valuables visible a parked vehicle.

RCMP patrols will continue in these areas, and anyone with information to share is asked to contact Holyrood RCMP or Crimestoppers.
