Poseidon sends large team to St. John’s meet
Poseidon had strong representation at the St. John’s Legend’s Spring Splash invitational meet earlier this month.
The club from Carbonear had 21 swimmers in the water, with several posting impressive results.
Noah Coombs of Bay Roberts achieved three champs times to move up to the team’s gold squad, while Mackenzie Sutton reached her second champs time. Coombs just missed out on a bronze in male 13-14 50metre backstroke, finishing fourth. Sutton’s top result was a sixth in female 11-12 50-m backstroke.
In 18-and-over girls, Allison Somers placed first in six events. Sarah Burt also had a noteworthy meet, earning gold (50-m breaststroke), silver (100-m breaststroke) and bronze (200-m breaststroke) medals in 10-and-under girls.
Alex Neil collected a gold medal in 200-m butterfly and silver in 50-m butterfly, and she placed fourth in three other events. Fellow 13-14 female swimmer Sarah Forward claimed silver in 200-m individual medley, and Rylee Moores won bronze in girls 11-12 100-m butterfly.
In a 4x50-m freestyle relay race, Poseidon swimmers Drew Forward, Taylor Burke, Brooke Lyall and Abby Trask joined forces to claim a gold medal.
Swim Newfoundland and Labrador Long Course Championships will take place in St. John’s June 3-5.
