Po­sei­don sends large team to St. John’s meet

Po­sei­don had strong rep­re­sen­ta­tion at the St. John’s Leg­end’s Spring Splash in­vi­ta­tional meet ear­lier this month.

The club from Car­bon­ear had 21 swim­mers in the wa­ter, with sev­eral post­ing im­pres­sive re­sults.

Noah Coombs of Bay Roberts achieved three champs times to move up to the team’s gold squad, while Macken­zie Sut­ton reached her se­cond champs time. Coombs just missed out on a bronze in male 13-14 50me­tre back­stroke, fin­ish­ing fourth. Sut­ton’s top re­sult was a sixth in fe­male 11-12 50-m back­stroke.

In 18-and-over girls, Al­li­son Somers placed first in six events. Sarah Burt also had a note­wor­thy meet, earn­ing gold (50-m breast­stroke), sil­ver (100-m breast­stroke) and bronze (200-m breast­stroke) medals in 10-and-un­der girls.

Alex Neil col­lected a gold medal in 200-m but­ter­fly and sil­ver in 50-m but­ter­fly, and she placed fourth in three other events. Fel­low 13-14 fe­male swim­mer Sarah For­ward claimed sil­ver in 200-m in­di­vid­ual med­ley, and Rylee Moores won bronze in girls 11-12 100-m but­ter­fly.

In a 4x50-m freestyle re­lay race, Po­sei­don swim­mers Drew For­ward, Tay­lor Burke, Brooke Lyall and Abby Trask joined forces to claim a gold medal.

Swim New­found­land and Labrador Long Course Cham­pi­onships will take place in St. John’s June 3-5.
