On April 11th, 2016 our Town was devastated by a fire which destroyed the shellfish processing facility.

The Compass - - NEWS -

It was through the service, sacrifice and professionalism of multiple fire departments, we were fortunate to report no injuries, no loss of life and no serious damage to residential homes in our community. The Town of Bay de Verde would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the following fire departments: Bay de Verde, Old Perlican, Hants Harbour, Winterton, Hearts Content, Harbour Grace, Bay Roberts, Carbonear, Hearts Delight-Islington and North Shore Fire Department for their hard work during this disaster. The Town would further like to thank those who provided assistance such as Tricon Elementary, Baccalieu Lion’s Club, The Town of Old Perlican, local businesses in the Conception Bay North area and countless residents in surrounding communities. We may not have been able to respond so quickly to this emergency situation without the strong community and regional support that we received. It was the tireless efforts of those who came out to help feed our fire fighters and provide assistance at our evacuation and management centre that made this situation tolerable. Finally to all of the people who have taken the time to send us their thoughts, prayers and well wishes and to those who are conducting fundraisers for our Fire Department and Town, we thank you for your generosity and thoughtfulness. It is all very much appreciated.

Thank You!
