Pla­cen­tia-area man pleads not guilty to sex­ual in­ter­fer­ence

A man from the Pla­cen­tia area ac­cused of touch­ing an un­der­age girl in­ap­pro­pri­ately is plead­ing not guilty.

A pub­li­ca­tion ban is in place to pro­tect the iden­tity of the 44-year-old man’s vic­tim. The ac­cused is fac­ing three counts each of sex­ual in­ter­fer­ence and sex­ual as­sault.

De­fence lawyer Randy Piercey en­tered the not guilty pleas on his client’s be­half last Wed­nes­day and re­quested a trial by judge and jury in New­found­land and Labrador Supreme Court. A pre­lim­i­nary in­quiry will take place Nov. 23 in St. John’s Pro­vin­cial Court.

The charges stem from al­leged events in mul­ti­ple com­mu­ni­ties in the sum­mer of 2014.
