Five Grade 8 students at Carbonear Academy have been doing their part to help others.

Two years ago, while in Grade 6, Hailee Hoyles, Jasmine Crawford, Hayley Power, Hannah Doyle and Emma Keats came up with a plan to recycle pop can tabs to save money for a wheelchair.

The girls put up posters in all corridors and classrooms in the school and enlisted the help of their family and friends. The pop can tabs were boxed up and stored away in the school until the time came for them to donate.

That time has finally come. With a collection of 257 pounds of pop tabs, Ronald McDonald House and Ava’s Journey will receive an equal share of the collection effort that these girls have made over their two years at the school.

New boxes will now be started to collect pop can tabs for future donations.
