Osprey bow out in round-of-16 at IceJam

The Tri Pen Osprey’s strong play in round-robin ac­tion earned the team a play­off berth at the 2017 East Coast IceJam tour­na­ment in Hal­i­fax.

How­ever, the team’s good for­tune didn’t con­tinue in the round of 16, where the Osprey fell 6-3 against New­bridge Academy. Liam Leonard led the way for the ma­jor-midget team, record­ing two goals. Kyle Pet­ten pro­vided the other goal for the Osprey.

In the round-robin por­tion of the five- day tour­na­ment held Jan. 1115, the big dif­fer­ence maker was the team’s goalie. In three games, Ri­ley Pet­ten al­lowed a mere three goals. His play helped the Osprey earn two wins and a tie, leav­ing the team ranked third head­ing into the play­offs.

In the team’s first game, Tri Pen tied the South Shore Mus­tangs 2- 2. Kyle Pet­ten and Ryan Pet­ten scored for Tri Pen. Next the Osprey shutout the Mi­ramichi River­men 3- 0, with Leonard, Matthew Brown and Ryon Wil­liams sup­ply­ing the goals.

In the team’s fi­nal game of the round- robin por­tion, Kyle Pet­ten scored in over­time to se­cure a 2-1 win over Cape Bre­ton Union­ized Trades­men. Leonard scored the ty­ing goal in the sec­ond pe­riod.
