Members of the Poseidon Swim Club of Carbonear are getting faster and faster in the pool.

One needs to only look at results from a pair of recent meets the team sent swimmers to. At the Bluefins Winter Invitational in Conception Bay South and the Winter Tune Up hosted by the St. Johns Legends, just about every Poseidon swimmer posted multiple personal-best times.

At the St. John’s meet Feb. 3 and 4, Jorja Bennett qualified for the upcoming championship meet in March, as did Broc Penney, who managed to do so at both meets. Bennett posted personal-best times in every event she swam.

At the junior meet in Conception Bay South Jan. 27 to 29, Sarah Burt had a strong finish to claim silver in the female 11-years-and-over 200-metre breaststroke event, beating the bronze medalist by a mere threetenths of a second. Her time in this race also qualified her for the championship meet next month.

Rylee Moores claimed a bronze in the female 11-yearsand-over 200-metre butterfly event, shaving three seconds off her previous personal best with a time of 3:22.18.

The women’s 4-50-metre relay team capped things off with a silver medal. Members of that team were Burt, Moores, Megan Smith and Mackenzie Sutton.

Poseidon had seven junior swimmers in the pool last month at a meet in Conception Bay South. Pictured are front (l-r) Robyn Gale and Julia Verge; back (l-r) Rylee Moores, Sarah Burt, Broc Penney, Megan Smith and Mackenzie Sutton.
