Grateful for superb medical carea
Frequently we hear negative stories regarding our health-care system and access to timely medical treatment and/or procedures. A member of my immediate family, on the other hand, recently had reason to seek treatment in several different facilities, by multiple medical practitioners across the province, and received - without exception - the absolute best care that one could wish for.
This all started with a routine check at the Medical Clinic in St. Alban’s that identified a possible issue warranting further investigation and subsequently a referral for a battery of tests at the Central Newfoundland Regional Hospital in Grand Falls-Windsor. The wait times for these procedures, although stressful, were certainly understandable and they were, in my opinion, performed in a reasonable time frame. This led to an invasive medical procedure at that facility and a referral for further treatment to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s.
At the HSC, we had the good fortune to be referred to Dr. Michael Hogan and his tremendous staff for major surgery that resulted in an extended stay. The care we received from the staff at the HSC, pre-, during and post-operative on 4 North B was exceptional, and once again speaks to the professionalism of the personnel who work in the medical field and is a testament to our medical system in this province.
While we all have, on occasion, complained about wait times and other issues within the health-care system in this province, I think we have to realize we live in a geographically diverse province with a decentralized population and have to taper our expectations given the fiscal situation we now find ourselves in.
I will close by stating that I think it is incumbent on us all to occasionally acknowledge the great, caring personnel who strive every day to provide a vital service to our province and I express my sincere thanks for their efforts to address the issues our family experienced.
