Bay Roberts, Har­bour Grace schools medal at vol­ley­ball tour­na­ment

Two schools from the Con­cep­tion Bay North area claimed medals at a Grade 7 girl’s in­vi­ta­tional vol­ley­ball tour­na­ment last month in Arnold’s Cove.

St. Fran­cis School claimed gold in the Tier II divi­sion, de­feat­ing River­side Ele­men­tary in the Tier II fi­nal in straight sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-12.

Else­where in Tier II ac­tion, Amal­ga­mated Academy’s Grade 7 girls won the bronze medal match. Coach Kris­ten Smith told The Com­pass this was the team’s sec­ond tour­na­ment, mak­ing the re­sult all the more sat­is­fy­ing.

The tour­na­ment at Tri­cen­tia Academy in Arnold’s Cove fea­tured eights teams in two di­vi­sions. Af­ter roundrobin play, the top two teams from each divi­sion ad­vanced to Tier I, with the other teams mov­ing to Tier II for the play­offs.
