Po­sei­don team­mates medal at Mount Pearl meet

Alex Neil of Bay Roberts re­cently earned the right to rep­re­sent New­found­land and Labrador at the 2017 Canada Sum­mer Games in Win­nipeg. The 14-year-old Po­sei­don swim­mer also had a great meet at the pro­vin­cial short-course cham­pi­onships, which were held in Mount Pearl.

A mem­ber of the Po­sei­don Swim Club of Car­bon­ear will rep­re­sent New­found­land and Labrador at the 2017 Canada Games in Win­nipeg.

Alex Neil of Bay Roberts was named to the team fol­low­ing the pro­vin­cial short­course cham­pi­onships, held March 24-26 in Mount Pearl.

The 14-year-old claimed two sil­ver medals at the meet in girls 14-an­dun­der 50-me­tre and 100-me­tre but­ter­fly events.

She also qual­i­fied for fi­nals in the 50-m freestyle and 200-m in­di­vid­ual med­ley events, fin­ish­ing sixth and fourth re­spec­tively.

Al­li­son Somers of Car­bon­ear also had a good meet, claim­ing gold medals in girls 15-and-over 100-m but­ter­fly and 200-m but­ter­fly events.

She qual­i­fied for fi­nals in three other events: 50-m freestyle (fifth), 400-m freestyle (sixth) and 50-m but­ter­fly (sev­enth).

Po­sei­don’s Sarah For­ward also fared well at the meet, qual­i­fy­ing for girls 14-and-un­der fi­nals in 200-m freestyle (eighth) and 400-m in­di­vid­ual med­ley (sixth).

Macken­zie Sut­ton fin­ished sixth in the fi­nal for girls 14-and-un­der 50-m back­stroke.

Eight Po­sei­don swim­mers in all qual­i­fied to com­pete at the meet in Mount Pearl. Po­sei­don was sched­uled at­tend an in­vi­ta­tional meet in Gander this past week­end, but it was can­celled due to weather.
