Trinity Placentia claims gold at memorial hockey tournament in Whitbourne
WHITBOURNE — The Trinity Placentia Pee Wee team went undefeated at home during the Terry Hoskins Memorial Pee Wee Tournament April 1-2 to capture gold and the memorial trophy.
The team finished up round robin play with a 3-0 record, defeating Marystown in the crossover game to face Bay Arena in the final.
The final game was neck and neck with Bay Arena taking a 3-2 lead into the third period. But with determination the Tee Pees came from behind with two unanswered goals to defeat Bay Arena 4-3 and take the gold medal.
Defenceman Carson Newhook scored the game winner on a simple dump in play that was deflected by a Bay Arena player and found the back of the net.
The win caps off an excellent regular season for the Pee Wee team out of Trinity Placentia, placing in the top three in all but one tournament this year. Next up the Tee Pees take to the road to head to Grand Falls-Windsor to participate in provincials during Easter week April 17-19.
