Car­bon­ear Col­le­giate claims sil­ver at pro­vin­cial basketball tour­na­ment

AVON­DALE — Car­bon­ear Col­le­giate came close to winning it all at the New­found­land Basketball As­so­ci­a­tion Boys Grade 11 East Coast Pro­vin­cial tour­na­ment at Ron­calli High School.

Car­bon­ear played well through­out the tour­na­ment in Avon­dale, go­ing un­de­feated up un­til the cham­pi­onship game, where they shared the court with Fa­tima High School. Car­bon­ear lost 71-59, earn­ing the team the sil­ver medal.

Game one saw Car­bon­ear Col­le­giate face Ron­calli, where they won 72-55. Game two pit­ted them against Bal­ti­more, which ended with a tight score of 80-76.

Those two wins earned the team a guar­an­teed spot in the semi-fi­nals, where they de­feated Bal­ti­more again, end­ing the game 82-62.

Car­bon­ear Col­le­giate’s Cody Vaters was awarded as the top de­fen­sive player of the tour­na­ment.
