Trinity-Con­cep­tion-Pla­cen­tia teams win All New­found­land and Labrador medals

All four mi­nor hockey as­so­ci­a­tions in the Trinity-Con­cep­tion-Pla­cen­tia area earned medals dur­ing the first half of All New­found­land and Labrador ac­tion this past week.

With Easter break keep­ing kids out of school for the week, thou­sands of young hockey play­ers took part in pro­vin­cial tour­na­ments across the prov­ince. Teams com­pet­ing at the pee­wee and mid­get lev­els were up first, with all tour­na­ments con­clud­ing Wed­nes­day, April 19.

Bay Arena claimed gold at the Pee­wee C tour­na­ment in Deer Lake, de­feat­ing Labrador City 6-5 in the fi­nal.

At the Pee­wee G level, Bay Arena lost to the Straits 9-1 in the fi­nal, claim­ing a sil­ver medal. The Trinity-Pla­cen­tia team based in Whit­bourne won its bronze medal match at the same tour­na­ment in Grand Falls-Windsor against South­ern Shore by a score of 9-0.

At the Pee­wee Mega Tour­na­ment co-hosted by Gan­der and Glover­town, Pla­cen­tia In­ter­town claimed bronze in Di­vi­sion B.

In Marys­town at the Mid­get B All New­found­land and Labrador tour­na­ment, the CeeBees fell just short of claim­ing the gold in a tight fi­nal against the home­town club, los­ing 2-1. Bay Arena claimed bronze at the same tour­na­ment.

Host­ing the Mid­get I tour­na­ment in Bay Roberts, Bay Arena took care of busi­ness in the fi­nal to de­feat Churchill Falls 5-4. At the Mid­get J tour­na­ment hosted in Baie Verte, Bay Arena claimed bronze.

DFO re­searchers plan to erect salmon count­ing fences/struc­tures on these rivers to mon­i­tor the re­turn­ing salmon pop­u­la­tions. The de­vices are usu­ally lo­cated within a kilo­me­ter or two from the mouth of the river.

The fol­low­ing rivers have fish­ways which may in­cor­po­rate wa­ter di­ver­sion dams: trib­u­tary)

North­east Pla­cen­tia River

Boaters are ad­vised to watch for these de­vices when set­ting out on the rivers, es­pe­cially at night or dur­ing pe­ri­ods of high flow when these de­vices might not be eas­ily seen.
