Trinity-Conception-Placentia teams win All Newfoundland and Labrador medals

All four minor hockey associations in the Trinity-Conception-Placentia area earned medals during the first half of All Newfoundland and Labrador action this past week.
With Easter break keeping kids out of school for the week, thousands of young hockey players took part in provincial tournaments across the province. Teams competing at the peewee and midget levels were up first, with all tournaments concluding Wednesday, April 19.
Bay Arena claimed gold at the Peewee C tournament in Deer Lake, defeating Labrador City 6-5 in the final.
At the Peewee G level, Bay Arena lost to the Straits 9-1 in the final, claiming a silver medal. The Trinity-Placentia team based in Whitbourne won its bronze medal match at the same tournament in Grand Falls-Windsor against Southern Shore by a score of 9-0.
At the Peewee Mega Tournament co-hosted by Gander and Glovertown, Placentia Intertown claimed bronze in Division B.
In Marystown at the Midget B All Newfoundland and Labrador tournament, the CeeBees fell just short of claiming the gold in a tight final against the hometown club, losing 2-1. Bay Arena claimed bronze at the same tournament.
Hosting the Midget I tournament in Bay Roberts, Bay Arena took care of business in the final to defeat Churchill Falls 5-4. At the Midget J tournament hosted in Baie Verte, Bay Arena claimed bronze.

DFO researchers plan to erect salmon counting fences/structures on these rivers to monitor the returning salmon populations. The devices are usually located within a kilometer or two from the mouth of the river.

Boaters are advised to watch for these devices when setting out on the rivers, especially at night or during periods of high flow when these devices might not be easily seen.
