Poseidon swimmers medal, earn personal-best times at St. John’s meet
Carbonear club sent small team to Ottawa last month for invitational competition
Multiple members of the Poseidon Swim Club earned medals and posted personal-best times at a long-course meet in St. John’s earlier this month.
The club from Carbonear had 15 swimmers in the pool for the Spring Splash meet at the Aquarena May 5-7, with all 15 posting at least one personal-best time.
Competing in the 14-15 female age category, Alex Neil of Bay Roberts won gold in 200metre individual medley, finishing four seconds ahead of teammate Sarah Forward from Salmon Cove, who claimed a silver medal. Neil also earned a silver medal in 50-m freestyle and bronze in 100-m butterfly.
The third Poseidon swimmer to medal at the meet was Sarah Burt. An 11-years-and-under competitor, Burt claimed three silver medals in breaststroke events (50-m, 100-m and 200-m).
Beyond those who earned medals, seven others swam their way to top-eight finishes — Ethan Kavanagh-Day, Andrew Littlejohn (less than a second away from a bronze in 50-m backstroke), Jorja Bennett, Drew Forward, Robyn Gale, Rylee Moores and Mackenzie Sutton.
Two weeks earlier, Poseidon sent five swimmers to an invitational meet in Ottawa.
Burt had four top-eight finishes, including a fifth-place finish in 200-m breaststroke. Joy Parsons had two finishes in the top eight, including a fifth in 50-m butterfly.
