Po­sei­don swim­mers medal, earn per­sonal-best times at St. John’s meet

Car­bon­ear club sent small team to Ot­tawa last month for in­vi­ta­tional com­pe­ti­tion

Mul­ti­ple mem­bers of the Po­sei­don Swim Club earned medals and posted per­sonal-best times at a long-course meet in St. John’s ear­lier this month.

The club from Car­bon­ear had 15 swim­mers in the pool for the Spring Splash meet at the Aquarena May 5-7, with all 15 post­ing at least one per­sonal-best time.

Com­pet­ing in the 14-15 fe­male age cat­e­gory, Alex Neil of Bay Roberts won gold in 200me­tre in­di­vid­ual med­ley, fin­ish­ing four sec­onds ahead of team­mate Sarah For­ward from Salmon Cove, who claimed a sil­ver medal. Neil also earned a sil­ver medal in 50-m freestyle and bronze in 100-m but­ter­fly.

The third Po­sei­don swim­mer to medal at the meet was Sarah Burt. An 11-years-and-un­der com­peti­tor, Burt claimed three sil­ver medals in breast­stroke events (50-m, 100-m and 200-m).

Be­yond those who earned medals, seven oth­ers swam their way to top-eight fin­ishes — Ethan Ka­vanagh-Day, An­drew Lit­tle­john (less than a se­cond away from a bronze in 50-m back­stroke), Jorja Bennett, Drew For­ward, Robyn Gale, Rylee Moores and Macken­zie Sut­ton.

Two weeks ear­lier, Po­sei­don sent five swim­mers to an in­vi­ta­tional meet in Ot­tawa.

Burt had four top-eight fin­ishes, in­clud­ing a fifth-place fin­ish in 200-m breast­stroke. Joy Par­sons had two fin­ishes in the top eight, in­clud­ing a fifth in 50-m but­ter­fly.
