Old Perlican school earns provin­cial medals

Bac­calieu Col­le­giate play­ers struck the birdie with aplomb at the School Sports New­found­land and Labrador Var­sity Bad­minton Provin­cials tour­na­ment.

The Old Perlican school placed third over­all out of 10 schools in the team com­pe­ti­tion, and two pairs teams medalled at the three-day event May 11-13, hosted by Canon Richards Memo­rial Academy in Flow­ers Cove.

Olivia Doyle and Dawn Oliver won bronze in girls dou­bles ac­tion. Oliver earned a sec­ond bronze team­ing up with Kyle Par­sons in the mixed dou­bles event.

In the team com­pe­ti­tion, Bac­calieu Col­le­giate went three-and-one in four roundrobin matches be­fore los­ing to Dorset Col­le­giate in the play­offs. Dorset Col­le­giate went on to claim the team ti­tle by de­feat­ing the host school.

Bac­calieu Col­le­giate team mem­ber Ben But­ton was named an in­di­vid­ual sports­man­ship award win­ner.
