Heart’s Content Regional Centre for the Arts grand opening
The Heart’s Content Mizzen Heritage Society will hold the grand opening of the Heart’s Content Regional Centre for the Arts June 17-18. An official opening ceremony takes place 2 p.m. June 17 with special guests and a performance by the Celeste choir. At 8 p.m. Newfoundland folk group The Once will perform. June 18 the centre will host Ties to the Avalon, an art exhibition and sale featuring local and regional artists and open to the general public free of charge. Call 583-2928 for more information.

Carbonear Memorial Day Parade
Any members of the Carbonear Legion that wish to take part in the July 1st parade are asked to be at the Legion that day by 9:45 am to be bussed at 10 a.m. to the Salvation Army parking lot to form up for the Parade at 10:30 a.m. The service will start at 11:50 a.m. at the Cenotaph in Carbonear. Anyone laying a wreath please have it at the branch no later then Friday, June 30 at 8 p.m. For more info call 596-3691.

New Hope Al-ANON
Meets every Tuesday 7:30 p.m. at the U-Turn Addictions Centre in Carbonear, at 46 Powell Drive. A 12-step recovery program for relatives and friends of alcoholics.
The Trinity Conception NAR-ANON Family Group offers a 12-step program designed to help relatives and friends of addicts recover from the effects of their addiction. Holy Redeemer Grade 7 student Sam Badcock placed third provincially in the Turning Points essay competition. The Spaniard’s Bay student was recognized for an essay entitled “Cancer.” That essay will be published in a national anthology of student essays later this summer. Fred Hutton presented the award to Sam June 1 at the Hibernia Interpretation Centre in Manuels.
