Work underway to correct levelness issue at Harbour Grace stadium
Work is underway to address the levelness of the concrete slab underneath the new stadium in Harbour Grace.
The town previously identified an issue when the Zamboni would contact concrete as it came close to the edge of the ice surface at the Danny Cleary Harbour Grace Community Centre. Once ice was removed in the spring, exposed piping and rebar were noticed.
Town councillors unanimously agreed to get in touch with the main contractor for the facility, Pomerleau, to demand a fix. Pomerleau agreed to take action, and the town’s chief administrative officer, Michael Saccary, provided an update at the June 28 council meeting on how the work is going.
According to Saccary, the company had some areas leveled off further and took some measurements.
“They have just a couple of more that need attention, so they’re going to go back at it again (beginning) next week to try and get that rectified and get it to the specs,” he said last Wednesday.
Stantec, an engineering company that also worked on the stadium’s creation, will also do some measurements once the work is finished, Saccary added.
The new multimillion-dollar facility opened last September, following years of construction and planning.
