Car­bon­ear un­der-14 soft­ball earns first pro­vin­cial ban­ner in 20 years

Team headed to eastern cham­pi­onship in Fredric­ton in Au­gust

CAR­BON­EAR, NL — Car­bon­ear ex­pe­ri­enced a string of suc­cess dur­ing the re­cent Soft­ball NL U14 Provin­cials in Bay Bulls.

The tour­na­ment, hosted by the South­ern Shore Mi­nor Soft­ball As­so­ci­a­tion on July 21-23 had eleven teams par­tic­i­pate, but the Car­bon­ear Is­lan­ders Pee Wee Boys fast pitch team came out on top af­ter a streak of wins over the week­end.

In the semi-fi­nal the Is­lan­ders de­feated Kelly’s Park Soft­ball As­so­ci­a­tion be­fore de­feat­ing the Goulds in the cham­pi­onship game at the Bay Bulls com­plex.

The Is­lan­ders’ strong pitch­ing and timely hit­ting won them the cham­pi­onship game, bring­ing home Car­bon­ear’s first pro­vin­cial ban­ner in 20 years.

Af­ter win­ning the cham­pi­onship, the un­de­feated team from Car­bon­ear has the op­por­tu­nity to rep­re­sent New­found­land at the Eastern Cana­dian Soft­ball Cham­pi­onships in Fredric­ton, N.B. on Aug. 24-27.

Car­bon­ear slid through the round robin with wins over Bay Roberts, South­ern Shore # 1, Con­cep­tion Bay Cen­tral #1 and the Goulds.

The 11 teams that took part in the pro­vin­cial tour­na­ment rep­re­sented the South­ern Shore, Car­bon­ear, Bay Roberts, Con­cep­tion Bay Cen­tral, Placentia, Shea Heights, But­lerville, Goulds, and Kelly’s Park Soft­ball As­so­ci­a­tion.
