Husky En­ergy has awarded the con­tract for the con­struc­tion of the con­crete grav­ity struc­ture (CGS) that will house the fixed drilling plat­form for the West White Rose pro­ject.

SNC Lavalin and Dra­ga­dos Canada - which each hold a 40 per cent stake in the gen­eral part­ner­ship - and Pen­necon Ltd. will be­gin work on the CGS at a pur­pose-built Ar­gen­tia

Us­ing 76,000 cu­bic me­tres of con­crete, the CGS will stand 145 me­tres high, have a di­am­e­ter of 122 me­tres and tip the scales at more than 210,000 tonnes once com­pleted.

Con­struc­tion is ex­pected to last un­til 2021.

First oil is an­tic­i­pated for 2022, with an ex­pected pro­duc­tion of roughly 75,000 bar­rels per day pro­duced by 2025.
