Mo­bile crane ar­rives in Ar­gen­tia

AR­GEN­TIA, NL — A key com­po­nent of an in­ter­na­tional ship­ping com­pany’s plans for ex­pand­ing New­found­land and Labrador op­er­a­tions ar­rived in Ar­gen­tia late last month.

Ac­cord­ing to a Port of Ar­gen­tia news re­lease, the BBC Jan de­liv­ered the Gottwald 6407 model mo­bile har­bour crane Oct. 27. The crane will be used for Eim­skip Canada’s re­cently an­nounced plan to make trips to Ar­gen­tia a weekly ser­vice for con­tainer op­er­a­tions.

“This new equip­ment ar­riv­ing … is the be­gin­ning of what we are con­fi­dent will be a sig­nif­i­cant ex­pan­sion in con­tainer cargo ac­tiv­ity at the Port and we con­grat­u­late Eim­skip on this ini­tia­tive,” Port of Ar­gen­tia board chair Vi­vian Smith said in a news re­lease.

Port of Ar­gen­tia is ac­tively work­ing to ex­pand cargo han­dling and ves­sel ser­vice ca­pac­ity in the area with hopes of be­com­ing a premier heavy in­dus­trial sea­port in the province. Eim­skip an­nounced in Septem­ber it would add a Green Line ves­sel to in­crease ser­vice to Ar­gen­tia.
