PLA­CEN­TIA SOFTBALLERS EARN AWARDS IN ST. JOHN’S SE­NIOR LEAGUE

ST. JOHN’S, NL — Two ath­letes from Pla­cen­tia were among those hon­oured at a re­cent awards ban­quet for the St. John’s Men’s Se­nior Fast­pitch Soft­ball League.

Jor­dan Pomeroy re­ceived the rookie of the year award fol­low­ing a pro­duc­tive 2017 sea­son play­ing for the Canada Games team, and Jeremy O’Reilly of the NTV Hit­men was named to the all-league team as an in­fielder.

Pomeroy, who also earned a spot on Canada’s ros­ter for the 2018 WBSC ju­nior men’s soft­ball world cham­pi­onship and a Soft­ball Canada schol­ar­ship in 2017, had a fan­tas­tic rookie sea­son. In 14 games, he hit .366 with a .537 slug­ging per­cent­age and led the team in dou­bles with four.

O’Reilly was the league leader in reg­u­lar sea­son RBIs with 23 in 18 games and was sec­ond in walks with 13. He pro­duced a .373 bat­ting av­er­age with 19 hits in 51 at bats and had a .627 slug­ging per­cent­age.

The awards were pre­sented Nov. 4 dur­ing an awards ban­quet at Kelly’s Pub in St. John’s.
