Minor hockey players shine at provincials
Easter week hockey tournaments featured plenty of great results for teams representing the TrinityConception-Placentia area.
With a provincial banner on the line, the Bay Arena Rovers Midget B team gave an all-out effort to win the championship game last Wednesday.
Playing on home ice in Bay Roberts, the Rovers defeated the Channel-Port aux Basques Blaze 3-1 to win the Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador Midget H Provincial Tournament.
The home team collected four wins and a loss prior to winning the championship game. The Rovers opened the tournament on Monday by beating the Northeast Eagles 8-2, then defeated Torngat Mountains 5-3. On Tuesday, the Rovers beat the Blaze 5-2 and followed that with a convincing 7-1 win over Beothic. The team’s lone loss at the three-day event came Wednesday against the Baie Verte Sabres in a tight 4-3 decision.
