Playing on home ice in the second overtime period of the championship game, the Placentia Lions found a way to pull through and win.

Brady Judge scored just over one minute into the second period of overtime to give the Lions a 6-5 victory over the Mount Pearl Blades, giving his team the Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador Bantam E Provincial Tournament win. Owen Edison and Blake O’Keefe assisted on the dramatic game winner at Unity Parc Arena.

The victory capped off a great three days of hockey for the bantam Lions, who went undefeated in five games. The team opened the tournament Thursday, April 5, with a 14-3 thrashing of the Clarenville Caribous, before ending the day with a 7-7 tie against the Bonavista Cabots.

On Friday, the Lions defeated the Blades 9-3 and shutout the Bay Arena Rovers from Bay Roberts 5-0. That was the team’s last game prior to Saturday’s championship face off against the Blades.

The Rovers had a 1-3 win-loss record in the six-team tournament, winning their final game Saturday against the Caribous by a score of 4-2.
