Poseidon Swim Club heavy with medals following home meet in Carbonear
It was an excellent weekend at the home pool in Carbonear for Poseidon Swim Club members.
The local club hosted the Spring Tide Invitational April 7-8. Almost every swimmer competing for Poseidon finished with at least one medal, and there were plenty of personal-best times recorded.
In the male 15-and-over age category, Andrew Littlejohn was named top achiever, collecting six gold medals. He notched a noteworthy personal achievement by breaking the 30-second barrier in 50-metre freestyle for the first time in competition, clocking in at 29.99.
Abby Trask was the second top achiever for female 15-and-over, collecting three gold and three silvers. Four of her six swims resulted in personal-best times. In male 13-14, Broc Penney claimed the second top achiever award, earning four gold, a silver and a bronze.
In all, Poseidon swimmers collected 38 medals. All five of the team’s Champs swimmers — Jorja Bennett, Sarah Burt, Sarah Forward, Rylee Moores and Mackenzie Sutton — participated in the event, but only swam in time trials.
The next swim meet for Poseidon is the Spring Splash longcourse event, to be held the first weekend of May in St. John’s.
