Drai­saitl will avoid Game 5 sus­pen­sion

Oil­ers for­ward Leon Drai­saitl will be avail­able for Game 5 against the San Jose Sharks.

The NHL an­nounced on Wed­nes­day that Drai­saitl avoided sus­pen­sion and will be fined for spear­ing Sharks for­ward Chris Tier­ney in the groin in Game 4 of the first-round se­ries.

Drai­saitl had a hear­ing with the league’s depart­ment of player safety to de­ter­mine any con­se­quences. The in­frac­tion will cost him US$2,569.44, the max­i­mum al­low­able un­der the CBA. The in­ci­dent oc­curred at 13:44 of the sec­ond pe­riod. Drai­saitl was as­sessed a ma­jor penalty for spear­ing and a game mis­con­duct.

San Jose went on to a 7-0 win in Game 4 to even the se­ries 2-2.

Ed­mon­ton hosts Game 5 on tonight.
