Motorcyclist badly injured after striking deer
A motorcycle rider sustained serious injuries after colliding with a deer in Lake Country Tuesday night.
Lake Country RCMP responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Highway 97 near Commonwealth Road shortly before 10 p.m.
The rider of the motorcycle was travelling north on the highway, south of the intersection, when he collided with a deer in the right lane, said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
The 26-year-old Lake Country man was taken to the hospital with serious bodily injuries, not believed to be life threatening.
“The man’s blue Suzuki street bike sustained significant damage, and was considered a total loss,” said O’Donaghey. “Thankfully, the rider was wearing a proper safety helmet, which investigators noted remained intact.”
Alcohol is not believed to be involved in the crash, but investigators have not yet ruled out speed as a potential contributing factor.
“RCMP wish to remind drivers to obey the posted speed limits and be prepared to slow or stop as needed for wildlife on our roadways,” said O’Donaghey.
Witnesses who have not spoken to police are asked to contact Const. George Minshull at 250-766-2288.
