Pancake breakfast this Sunday
I hope you have enjoyed a very Happy Easter weekend with family and friends.
Easter weekend is a time for Christians to celebrates the death, and resurrection of Jesus, but, more recently, it has become synonymous with Easter parades, Easter bonnets, Easter Bunnies and chocolate Easter Eggs of all things.
I understand that eggs are symbolic of birth, and therefore the re-birth of Christ, but why we insist on teaching our children that a rabbit lays chocolate eggs is beyond me.
We have a busy time coming up at the Westside Seniors Activity Centre starting with another pancake breakfast which will held at the Westside Seniors Activity Centre between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 23. For only $4 per person you will enjoy juice, coffee/tea, pancakes, ham, eggs and hash brown potatoes. The event is open to the public so please invite your friends and neighbours and come out for a good time and a great breakfast. The Westside Seniors Association is located next to the Fire Hall at 3661, Old Okanagan Highway in West Kelowna.
The annual general meeting of the Westside Senior Citizen’s Service Association will be held on May 23. A reminder of date and time, as well as instructions on nominating someone for a term on the board of directors, has been sent to every member in accordance with the by-laws.
This is an important occasion for the Westside Seniors Association and a time for renewal, fresh blood and new ideas. It is the time when the general membership is asked to vote, and elect new officers to the board of directors. If you wish to nominate someone for a two-year term, use the official nomination forms, from your particular activity co-ordinator, and have it signed by the nominee before submission.
Serving on the board is fun and, I find, very rewarding to give back a little time in exchange for all the enjoyment you receive from membership in the association and participation in the various activities. Most positions only require a small time commitment. Nominations must be received on, or before, before May 2nd 2017.
Polls will be open from 10 am to noon on the 23rd May and you are encouraged to get out and vote for all positions open on the Board this year. After the polls close there will be a catered lunch for members who have pre-purchased tickets. Tickets for the lunch cost $10 each and will be on sale, at the Seniors’ Centre, each Tuesday from April 25 until May 16th 2017 on a first-come, first-served basis. The theme for the lunch this year is Red and White to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, so be sure to wear your red and white at the meeting.
The Seniors Activity Centre is officially closed for the summer immediately following the AGM. Many of the activities, however, continue through the summer months sometimes with modified formats. Please contact the activity coordinator to confirm the status of your particular activity through the summer months. The board of directors wishes everyone a safe, healthy and very enjoyable summer break and reminds you to put 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, in your diary as the first social gathering of the 2017-18 season.
