Will government favour lakeshore property owners over public again?

-

Editor: The article, Public owns foreshore on lake (June 24 by Pihl Law lawyer Andrew Prior) was very informative and interesting, although he mostly addresses the rights of waterfront owners and not the right of public access.

It is my understanding the public property between high watermark and the water must not be obstructed by docks, retaining walls and other such structures.

Prior to the recent flood, there were many such obstructions which broke the current restrictions without penalty.

During the flood, many of these were washed away or severely damaged.

I will bet dollars to doughnuts that these structures will be built bigger and better regardless of rules and regulations and without approval.

Again, the province will do nothing to protect public rights. Derek Coyle, Peachland
