Man sought after report of sexual assault
Police are searching for a suspect after a Kelowna woman reported being sexually assaulted in a public area Sunday evening.
The woman was standing near the intersection of Kiniski Road and Creekside Road near Mission Creek Regional Park at 7:45 p.m. when she heard rustling in the bushes.
She told RCMP that a few minutes later she was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted, said Cpl. Tania Carroll.
When the woman struggled and screamed, the male suspect ran off toward Springfield Road.
The woman did not suffer any injuries requiring medical attention, and she waited until the following morning to report the incident to police.
The suspect is described as a man of medium height and build with lightcoloured, buzz-cut-style hair and light tanned skin.
He wore a plaid pastel T-shirt and beige khaki shorts.
“This would be a traumatizing event for anyone, and the Kelowna RCMP needs to know if there are any others who have come in contact with this same person,” said Carroll. “If this has happened to you, it’s very important to contact the RCMP as soon as it is safe to do so.”
Investigators have conducted extensive patrols in the area to gather information, she said.
Anyone with information about this incident, or anyone who witnessed anyone in the area, is asked to call RCMP at 250762-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
“The Kelowna RCMP wants to remind the public to stay in well-lit areas, to be aware of your surroundings and to trust your instincts,” said Carroll.
