Fire forces family out of their home

The Daily Courier - - CITY -

A Kelowna family has been displaced from their home after a duplex fire early Thursday morning.

Kelowna Fire Dispatch received a 911 call reporting wooden pallets on fire behind a business in the 1500 block of Gordon Drive at 3:56 a.m.

On arrival, crews saw the fire was extending from the wooden pallets to the eaves of an adjacent twostorey duplex.

Fire damage extended to the roof and attic space of one of the units, but it did not spread to the other unit of the duplex, said Kelly Stephens, platoon captain.

The occupants of the residence are not permitted to return home because of fire and water damage.

Four adults and one child were evacuated, but none were taken to the hospital.

The fire is considered suspicious, and investigators from the Kelowna Fire Department and the Kelowna RCMP are investigating the cause.
