Charges laid af­ter Kamloops stand­off

KAMLOOPS — Thir­teen charges have been laid against a Bri­tish Columbia man fol­low­ing an 18-hour stand­off in Kamloops.

Staff Sgt. Si­mon Pil­lay says charges against Shane Caron in­clude four counts of at­tempted mur­der af­ter po­lice say shots were fired at four RCMP of­fi­cers dur­ing the in­ci­dent that be­gan Fri­day.

Pil­lay says other charges range from us­ing a firearm while com­mit­ting an as­sault to dis­charg­ing a firearm to pre­vent ar­rest.

Caron was ar­rested early Satur­day morn­ing and was mae his first court ap­pear­ance in Kamloops on Mon­day.

A re­port of an as­sault at a Kamloops home on Fri­day led to a se­ries of events that ended with shots fired and a lengthy stand­off at the G and M Trailer Park.

Pil­lay says two of­fi­cers were slightly hurt and more charges are ex­pected as the in­ves­ti­ga­tion con­tin­ues.
